How to submit calendar entries

Two ways to submit:

1. Website – Mark Longley is dragging us into the 21st century by providing the option to upload onto a website – click on this link (which opens in a new tab) and follow the instructions: https://mdl770.wixsite.com/woottondh2021

Do not create your own sign in just click on login and the enter the email address of 1@1.com and use the password Password1 .

Wixsite sign up screen
Click on Add Media and then select from your files and follow the process.

If you are submitting entries for the calendar please make sure that you save your photos with a specific file name making use of your own name and month you are submitting for.  For example TimD_June.jpg or JacquiK_August.jpg.

Ideally the photos need to be landscape rather than portrait (but we may be able to work round this if there is a really good one!)

Once you have uploaded onto the website please then add the caption for your entries via the Comment facility for each photograph.

If submitting for the Go Kart it does not matter about the file name or caption as this will be a montage.

2. By email – send your entries to Mark Longley at mdl@wapicho.com.  Make sure your photographs have been saved using the file name suggested above and include your captions for each photograph in the body of the email.

If the file is too large to email then please use https://www.transfernow.net/ or https://wetransfer.com/

Both are quite self explanatory on how to use.

A quick reminder that the theme for this year is WOOTTON ‘INACTION’ to reflect our time during the pandemic.  Some suggestions are included in the original Wootton Calendar 2022 announcement but you can also think about the phrases that have been used:

Social distancingQuarantineStay Alert, Protect the NHS, Save Lives
Hands, Face, SpaceStay at HomeEat Out to Help Out
Key workersLockdownFlattening the curve
Pingdemic

Please do have a look at your photographs and submit any you think are possible candidates for the calendar.  It is always great to have a selection to choose from and it always makes the results announcement really exciting.

If you have any problems submitting your photos please contact Mark Longley mdl@wapicho.com and he will provide you with support and guidance.

We look forward to seeing lots of entries 😊

Wootton Calendar 2022

We will be creating another Wootton Calendar this year. For the newer members of the village, for a number of years we have had a Wootton Calendar and as you would expect we make a bit of a thing about it. It consists of photographs from throughout the year taken by yourselves. We then have a ‘View & Vote’ session one afternoon where everyone is invited to view the entries and pick their choices for each month and this includes the big reveal at the end of the session accompanied by a drink or two.

You can have a look at previous calendars here:
http://www.woottonunderweaver.co.uk/gallery/

The calendars are priced at £5 each, with all the proceeds being donated to Mayfield & Ellastone First Responders. Our unique selling point is that the calendars are produced free of charge, from Sara Longley doing all the design work, Mark Longley printing the photograph entries for the View and Vote and a previous member of the village, Mark Lockley printing the calendars free of charge. All of this means that the full £5 from each calendar goes to the charity. We thank Mark, Sara & Mark for their work on this.

We will be selling these at a Quiz Night that is being organised at the Cricket Club mid to late November, date to be agreed. They make a great addition to your office or kitchen, a lovely stocking filler for family and friends and they have in the past, travelled across the world.

The theme this year is going to be Wootton ‘InAction’ to display Wootton during this extraordinary 18mths, hence the play on the words inaction. There will be more information on how to submit your photos very shortly along with confirmation of the entry deadlines, View & Vote and the Quiz Night. In the meantime do start to think about what photos you have to represent Wootton during this period along with a suitable caption.

It will be different to previous calendars as we are trying to avoid the scenic pictures, what about Zoom sessions within the village, socially distanced gatherings, ‘lockdown’ babies 😉, very busy Daltons Dairy and the Hatch, exploring more around the village as you were not able to travel, quarantine pictures etc.

For the month of August we always do a montage of the Go Kart race and this is one of the more time consuming aspects of this calendar. If you do have any pictures from Bank Holiday Monday please can you email them to Sara Longley asap at sjl@wapicho.com and she can make a head start on this.

We hope to confirm the deadlines and dates shortly, check back for details.

Wootton 100 Challenges

Wootton 100lb Weight loss Challenge

Dog weighs itself on scales

As promoted in the Wootton Newsletter April 2021 we would like to try to raise some money for our local Mayfield and Ellastone First Responders by trying to lose 100lbs in weight in the village.

DID YOU KNOW – 100lbs is just over 42 x 1kg bags of sugar.

AIM – for every 1lb lost, you will make a £1 contribution and the Parish Council has agreed to match this up to a maximum of £100.

HOW TO TAKE PART – complete the spreadsheet by clicking on this link:
Wootton Weight Loss 100lb Challenge.xlsx (link will open in new tab).
You DO NOT need to use your real name, feel free to use a nick name if you would rather retain anonymity. If you have problems entering details on the spreadsheet you may need to sign into One Drive, this can be done quickly and easily by using the Sign in button on the top right hand corner of the spreadsheet. If there is a button that says ‘viewing’, click on the downward arrow and select ‘editing’.  If you have any problems with the spreadsheet then please do get in touch with Jacqui Kinch – 07707 297381.

WHEN – August 1st to November 30th 2021.

COLLECTION – After the 30th November the total weight loss will be announced on the website and confirmation of how to make your contribution will be provided.

Good luck to all that choose to take part and remember the following:

  • everything in moderation
  • calorie input versus calorie output
  • diet and exercise go hand in hand
  • gradual weight loss is easier to achieve and sustain rather than quick weight loss

Please be sensible.

Wootton 100 Lap Challenge

Person walking

AIM – The villagers of Wootton to complete 100 laps between them.

WHEN – Saturday 14th August to Saturday 21st August 2021

ENTRY FEE – £10 entry fee or donation.  All funds raised will go to Mayfield & Ellastone First Responders.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

  1. Devise your own lap – can be as short or as long as you like, so long as it is manageable
  2. Put your name on the chart that will be on the Reading Room noticeboard
  3. Put entry fee / donation in an envelope and give to Dot Adams (through post box at Bank Top), please put your name on the envelope
  4. Every time you complete a lap, mark this on the chart on the notice board
  5. Enjoy the fresh air and whatever weather that week provides 😊

Look forward to seeing villagers out and about during that week.  We will announce the results at the Wootton Summer Party – watch out for more news on this soon.

Mr George Fargher, Chairman and members of the ESSC presenting the cheque for £1,000 to WCC Secretary Dave Shooter which was put towards the purchase of a club mower

In November 2020 WCC applied to the East Staffs Sports Council for a £1,000 grant towards the purchase of a mower. It was accepted and the mower was bought and put into immediate use. According to WCC President and Groundsman Ed Barker ‘the wicket has never looked better for the 2021 season’.

Now that Covid restrictions have been lifted, the Chairman George Fargher, together with fellow members of the Sports Council was able to actually present the cheque at Wootton on Thursday 15th July.

He was pleased to eventually make the presentation and praise the Club for providing an enviable wicket for junior and senior teams. He noted that the First XI tops the Derbyshire County Cricket League Division 5S and the Second XI is currently fourth in Division 8S whilst the Club’s junior teams play throughout the age range in the South Moorlands Junior Cricket League.
